Weekend Update from DSmithImages: Skullduggery Show Gallery [11 Jan 2009|12:30pm]

diamondduste
Greetings everyone, I hope you all have had a great weekend, especially those who just finished their first week back at school, wherever that might be.

Some good shows happened this weekend, and I was on hand to photograph a couple of them. I want to share the links to the galleries from the performances of The Great Big No and Skullduggery.

The Great Big No (visit them at http://www.myspace.com/thegreatbigno) put on a great show at their CD Release concert on Friday, January 9th at The Mellow Mushroom in Tuscaloosa. Images from that show can be seen at: http://www.dsmithimages.com/g/gbn010909

Skullduggery, Tuscaloosa's favorite band of Irish rogues, (who can be visited at http://www.myspace.com/skullduggerytuscaloosa) put on a rousing show at Egans in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, January 10th. The gallery from that show can be seen at: http://www.dsmithimages.com/g/skullduggery011009

-With that in mind, if you are in a band or a musician looking for promo photos or shots taken during a live performance, let me know. I have a couple of different pricing breakdowns, but I will work with each band specifically to get what they need and what they want. Bands can also opt in and have a show covered as an event shoot, similar to a party or social function. The rest of my live music galleries can be seen at:
http://www.dsmithimages.com/g/live_music

Even though school has started back, don't let that hamper your ability to throw a monster blowout to celebrate a whole litany of things. If you have a special event coming up, you shouldn't have to worry about missing all the fun stuff by being preoccupied with taking pictures because that's what I am here for.

Contact me if you need a photographer for a party, special event, special occasion, or anything along those lines. All images from the event would be put up on http://www.DSmithImages.com in either a public or private gallery so those who attended the event could order prints and images on their own time. If you are interested or have an event coming up in the next few weeks or months, email me at dsmithimages@gmail.com so we can get the ball rolling. You will be able to choose from 3X5's, 4X6's, 5X7's, digital downloads, black and whites and/or colored prints, and really... anything you'd like to have included. The choices are all up to you so don't wait!

Please don't let travel and distance barriers prevent you from asking either. If it is within reason, I do not mind traveling to cover an event if my schedule allows it. I'll do any event - family, birthday, anniversary, college, house party, Greek, corporate, etc. Just let me know the details, and we will go from there. If you want to see some of my live event work, please visit the following link:
http://www.dsmithimages.com/g/parties_and_celebrations

-If you are in the market for some personalized and on location portrait shots, let me know. I'm looking to expand my portfolio in that field, and I'd be happy to discuss details with anyone interested. The same as the event breakdown follows. Tell me what you want done, and we will go from there. If you want to see some of my portrait work, please visit the following link:
http://www.dsmithimages.com/g/portraits

I also want to invite you all to the opening reception of the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa's Double Exposure Photography Contest will be happening on Sunday, January 25th at 2:00 P.M. in the Junior League Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa. One of my photos, "Ruins", made the finalist list in the adult category (Along with 33 other photographers in the category) and will be on display as part of the exhibit. Winners are going to be announced on Friday the 22nd, and who knows, I might get lucky. If you can attend, I'd more than appreciate the support. If not, no worries... just wanted to spread the news regardless.

Again, thank you for all your help and support. It means a great deal! Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Take care,

David

Two Sugar Bowl Tickets! [29 Dec 2008|08:27am]

dmaguire27
I have one pair of Sugar Bowl tickets for sale - $250 for the pair (that's face value).  They are UA faculty-staff tickets.  I can ship them to you, or hand-deliver them, or meet you somewhere in the French Quarter on Thursday, or leave them at Will Call.

Bowl Ticket Info [04 Dec 2008|06:12pm]

__eleveneleven
University of Alabama Student Bowl Ticket Information

University of Alabama students interested in purchasing Bowl game tickets should place their names on a ticket request list beginning Monday, Dec. 8. Students must visit the Ticket Office inside Coleman Coliseum between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 or Tuesday, Dec. 9 to be placed on a ticket request list to purchase Bowl game tickets.

To be placed on the request list, students must have their ACTion Card scanned by the card readers located inside the main entrance of Coleman Coliseum. Students who place their name on the request list must be eligible enrolled students. Click here for information on eligibility. Spouses of eligible cardholders will not be included even if a spouse season package was purchased.

For the Bowl game, the University administration supports the Student Government Association’s request to allocate 80 percent of the student Bowl tickets to undergraduate students, and 20 percent of the student Bowl tickets to graduate students.

If the number of student ticket requests exceeds the number of student tickets allotted for the Bowl game, tickets will be distributed based on UA earned hours through the summer of 2008.

The list of students eligible to purchase tickets will be posted on the Coleman Coliseum doors beginning Wednesday, Dec. 10. The list will also be available at http://www.rolltide.com/tickets/m-footbl-student-tickets.html.

Each student can purchase one Bowl ticket. Students who are eligible to purchase tickets must come by the Ticket Office on Wednesday, Dec. 10 or Thursday, Dec. 11 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to purchase their tickets. Price will be determined when the Bowl is announced.

Students must pick up their hard copy tickets at the Bowl site, with a valid photo I.D.

I love love love the parts I've bolded. AKA NO SELLING OF TICKETS! unless you plan on making the trip just to sell it. AND Undergrads will actually get tickets this time.

Thank you University for actually listening to the students and the complaints. Making it a little more difficult for people to scalp these student tickets is definitely appreciated.

It really makes me happy that they did something like this even if it does mean that you have to be 100% certain that you can go when you buy one. Then again, it will probably only be 1200 of us that get that lucky opportunity so whatever.

Roll Tide and see you in Atlanta!

The World Through My Eyes - Last Minute Information + After Party News + Weekend Events [03 Dec 2008|08:21pm]

diamondduste
Hey everyone...

Photobucket

We're under 24 hours away from "The World Through My Eyes"

(I'll give you a brief moment to control your excitement)

Ok, with that said and done, I've been wondering what to do for an "after-party", and I must say... I had hit a stump. Low and behold, however, the wonderful people in Mansfield have given me an idea...

After the show concludes at 10:00 P.M., walk on down to the Mellow Mushroom to see the musical talents of Mansfield plus another band that is so secret... no one knows who they are. Cover is $5, and you need to be 19+ to check out that show. If you've never seen Mansfield, you're in for a treat.

You basically just need to be breathing to check out "The World Through My Eyes", though. Remember - 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. at One Night Only (http://www.myspace.com/onoartique). LOTS of Beer, Wine, and Snacks to be had by all that come. It should make for a fun and memorable evening overall!

Hope to see a bunch, if not all, of you tomorrow night!

Couple of other events coming up this weekend in Tuscaloosa:

-Friday night: The always entertaining Squirrelhouse will be performing at Egans on Friday Night. They will be joined by Starkville, Mississippi's Come On Go With Us. No cover as always, 21+ to get in, and I'd expect a "normal" Egans starting time.

Also on Friday night, URI (http://www.myspace.com/urimusic1) will be performing at The Mellow Mushroom. If you've never seen URI live, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! They are easily one of the best live bands in town, and I'm not just saying that because I'm more or less their official photographer. Cover is $5, 19+ to get in, and they will probably take the stage at around 11:00 P.M., give or take.

Do yourself a favor and check out both Squirrelhouse and URI to make it a one-two punch.

-Saturday: After we go gator hunting in the afternoon, I hear that there is a certain house party in town. If you are fortunate enough, you'll be getting the details as there is a trifecta of bands performing at this one.

Many Thanks,

David
